The Winner’s Trilogy Review

This trilogy is about a girl named Kestrel, who is walking around town with her friend until they stumble upon an auction for slaves. When a slave named Arin is up for bidding on, Kestrel buys him at a high and that’s when she learns about the Winner’s curse.

The Winner’s Curse(Book 1) Review:

Rating: 4.5/5 Stars

Right away I will say this book was slow in the beginning for me. The first time I tried to read it was after finishing A Court of Mists and Fury, which was probably the worst choice on my part, but I had to put it down and read another book. Though I did pick this book up again. The next time I picked it up, I pushed myself through half of the book and I’m happy I did.

It did take some time for me to like the characters. But, when I got to the second half of the book, things started to pick up and I started to like, as well as care about, the two main characters: Arin, and Kestrel. I really did love the second half of the book more than the first half. It made me want to keep reading to see what would happen. I did love the romance. It didn’t feel like the romance was insta love to me. It felt more like the romance grew as the characters got to know each other. The world was set up really nicely. I also loved the writing of this book and I loved the use of perspectives in it as well.

The Winner’s Crime(Book 2) Review:

Rating: 5/5 Stars

I was so scared to read this book. I heard some people didn’t like it and that it wasn’t as good as the first book or the first half was boring and the second half was great.

So now that I have read it, I can say those people are wrong.

This book was so much better than the first book. It never let up which is why I kept reading to see what would happen. I think the reason why the Winner’s Crime was so good is because it doesn’t focus on the romance. This book focuses on the main characters with their decisions, politics, how everything is affecting Kestrel and Arin, and the villain of the story. Yes, there is a villain. I won’t say who it is but I will say it is obvious.

I will keep this review short and to the point, but I have to say Kestrel and Arin go through so much shit in this book that I feel so bad for them. I hope something good and happy happens to them in The Winner’s Kiss.

Also that ending. I wanted to cry and scream and throw my book across the room.

The Winner’s Kiss(Book 3) Review:

Rating: 5/5 Stars

I loved this book so so much. I think this was a perfect ending to this wonderful and amazing series. This book just never let up on every single page. Even when there was some downtime, I felt like there was tension with everything that was happening.

Those last hundred pages of this book had me so on edge. I tried so hard to not cry while reading those pages since my boyfriend was sleeping next to me.

I’m happy with what happened to the characters, especially with how the Emperor was dealt with. I wanted to scream with happiness!!

If you love stories that deal with war and politics and all that good stuff, then pick up this trilogy up and read them. I do think it is best to marathon the three books instead of spreading them out.

Have fun read!!
