Review: I didn’t know what I was getting into when reading this book. I knew what it was about, but I had no idea what would happen in this first book.
Now, I just want to say nothing big happens for two-thirds of this book. The last third of this book is perfect.
The story is solid. It was well-thought out and it felt different from other fantasy stories, which was refreshing. There is a part of me that is happy there will only be two books, so I don’t have to wait long for the ending.
The characters were well written. Kendare Blake knows how to write characters and make them have different voices, from each other. Though the romance for me went too fast. Characters were already making out and falling in love too fast. It would have been nice to see the romance to slowly develop instead of things going fast.
There are a lot of characters you will be introduced to, so you will have to remember each one since there is no appendix.
Overall, this book is worth the read if you want a different type of fantasy story or liked Kendare Blakes other books. I do suggest you read a few fantasy books before this one in order to get ready to keep track of characters that appear. I can’t wait to read book twi when it gets released this year.
