The Last Namsara-Book Review(No Spoilers)

Author: Kristen Ciccarelli

Series: Iskari #1

Rating: 5/5 Stars

Summary: “In the beginning, there was the Namsara: the child of sky and spirit, who carried love and laughter wherever he went. But where there is light, there must be darkness—and so there was also the Iskari. The child of blood and moonlight. The destroyer. The death-bringer.

These are the legends that Asha, daughter of the king of Firgaard, has grown up learning in hushed whispers, drawn to the forbidden figures of the past. But it isn’t until she becomes the fiercest, most feared dragon slayer in the land that she takes on the role of the next Iskari—a lonely destiny that leaves her feeling more like a weapon than a girl.

Asha conquers each dragon and brings its head to the king, but no kill can free her from the shackles that await at home: her betrothal to the cruel commandant, a man who holds the truth about her nature in his palm. When she’s offered the chance to gain her freedom in exchange for the life of the most powerful dragon in Firgaard, she finds that there may be more truth to the ancient stories than she ever could have expected. With the help of a secret friend—a slave boy from her betrothed’s household—Asha must shed the layers of her Iskari bondage and open her heart to love, light, and a truth that has been kept from her.” -From Goodreads

Review: If you have yet to pick up this book, then go pick it up now, because it was one of my favorite books of 2017. It is also very different from any other fantasy book I have read.

The story of this book immediately hooked me. I was so interested in the world Kristen created, as well as the characters. One big thing I loved was how stories and dragons came together in this book in such a unique way that I never expected. This novel had so many twists and turns. It’s definitely a ride.

Asha was a strong female character that kept getting stronger as the story progressed. Her character arc went so smoothly throughout this book that she became my favorite female character I have read in any book. She fell for the right person for her, which made me so happy. The other characters were written well and came off the page.

I also want to mention how awesome these dragons are. They are different from the ones I have both seen and read about. It’s also unique how they become stronger.

I know this review is short, but it’s best going into this book almost going in with not knowing much about the book.

If you love dragons, fantasy, a strong female character, and romance mixed in, then try reading this book.

Hopefully, it will blow you away as much as it did to me.
