Summary: “Most know Androma Racella as the Bloody Baroness, a powerful mercenary whose reign of terror stretches across the Mirabel Galaxy. To those aboard her glass starship, Marauder, however, she’s just Andi, their friend and fearless leader.

But when a routine mission goes awry, the Marauder‘s all-girl crew is tested as they find themselves in a treacherous situation and at the mercy of a sadistic bounty hunter from Andi’s past.

Meanwhile, across the galaxy, a ruthless ruler waits in the shadows of the planet Xen Ptera, biding her time to exact revenge for the destruction of her people. The pieces of her deadly plan are about to fall into place, unleashing a plot that will tear Mirabel in two.

Andi and her crew embark on a dangerous, soul-testing journey that could restore order to their shipor just as easily start a war that will devour worlds. As the Marauder hurtles toward the unknown, and Mirabel hangs in the balance, the only certainty is that in a galaxy run on lies and illusion, no one can be trusted.” -From Goodreads

Review: I just want to mention that I love both Sasha and Lindsay. I bought the book to support them and it sounded interesting. This review is not going to be about them, but of and only the book. Now, this is my opinion on the book. If you want to read it, go for it. You might enjoy it.

Onto the review.

I very much enjoyed the first half of the book. I literally read it within a day. The second half of the book kind of dragged a bit. It didn’t have the same feeling as the first half did.

Sasha and Lindsay did a good job of making their writing the same so it wouldn’t be changing all the time. Though I still had trouble with the repetition. The writing almost read like a first draft, and the italicized words. This book could have been 200 pages less.

The amount of point of views does feel like a lot at times.  There are about 6 POVs in this book in total.

In the first half, I did enjoy reading about Andi. She read like a Celaena copy, but she also felt like her own character at times. Dex was an okay character. I didn’t feel much of anything towards him, but that I found him annoying. The side characters were interesting, though felt underdeveloped or didn’t do much. Also, I just want to mention that rape does get used in this book.

The world building was only there when the characters were on a certain planet, but never to tell or show the reader more of the world.

Now, I love sci-fi and the idea of an all-female crew interests me, but this book just didn’t live up to the hype. I also bought this book thinking that maybe I would enjoy it compared to the reviews I was seeing. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case.

Overall, if you are still interested in reading the book, then go for it. You might enjoy it more than I did. I would never tell someone to not read a book only because I didn’t like it. I don’t know if I will be reading the sequel. If I do, then I will be listening to it on audiobook, since I have been hearing it is good to listen to.
