Restore Me-Book Review(No Spoilers)

Author: Tahereh Mafi

Series: Shatter Me #4

Rating: 4/5 Stars

Summary of Book One: “I have a curse
I have a gift

I am a monster
I’m more than human

My touch is lethal
My touch is power

I am their weapon
I will fight back

Juliette hasn’t touched anyone in exactly 264 days.

The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette’s touch is fatal. As long as she doesn’t hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don’t fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color.

The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war – and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she’s exactly what they need right now.

Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior.” -From Goodreads

Review: An important thing to do before reading this book is if you haven’t reread Ignite Me, then it would best to refresh on what happened in that book. Though if you already read Ignite Me and are going to pick this straight up, then you will be fine.

Something that Tahereh Mafi does well in her books is both diverse and using mental illness correctly. Since I deal with anxiety, it was nice to see a character with anxiety being presented in a way that was true to what anxiety is.

With the characters, I felt like some did a step forward to character growth and some kind of took a step back when it came to their growth. I did enjoy the new characters that came in, wanting to see what they do in the next book with the old characters.

The writing was enjoyable as usual and what you would expect to be in a Shatter Me novel.

As for the plot or what happens in this book, nothing really happened. Things did happen, especially things that surprised me(that includes the ending), but those were things that would be more important in the next book. In other words, this book felt more like the book that sets up what will happen in the next book.

If you liked the first three books in the Shatter Me series, then you should definitely read this one. Even though this was a setup, it’s still enjoyable.

Have fun reading!
