Kingdom of Ash-Book Review(No Spoilers)

Author: Sarah J. Maas

Series: Throne of Glass #7

Rating: 3.5/5 Stars

Summary of Book One: “After serving out a year of hard labor in the salt mines of Endovier for her crimes, 18-year-old assassin Celaena Sardothien is dragged before the Crown Prince. Prince Dorian offers her her freedom on one condition: she must act as his champion in a competition to find a new royal assassin.

Her opponents are men-thieves and assassins and warriors from across the empire, each sponsored by a member of the king’s council. If she beats her opponents in a series of eliminations, she’ll serve the kingdom for four years and then be granted her freedom. Celaena finds her training sessions with the captain of the guard, Westfall, challenging and exhilarating. But she’s bored stiff by court life. Things get a little more interesting when the prince starts to show interest in her … but it’s the gruff Captain Westfall who seems to understand her best.

Then one of the other contestants turns up dead … quickly followed by another. Can Celaena figure out who the killer is before she becomes a victim? As the young assassin investigates, her search leads her to discover a greater destiny than she could possibly have imagined.” -From Goodreads

Review: This wasn’t bad in anyway, though that being said it was disappointed in some way to me.

I will say the ending to A Court of Wings and Ruin felt convenient, so I was hoping their would be more stacks in this one compared to that one. There were, but I was hoping for more.

Things that were being lead up to felt easily resolved. The fate of characters did give me feels more than in ACOWAR, but I was hoping for more when it came to certain characters. The ending wrapped things up nicely. There wasn’t anything that felt like it still needed to be answered.

When it came to the characters, the parts with Celaena made my heart hurt and I was happy with how her story moved through out this book. I was happy with the other characters too, none of them completely annoyed me. The only time I ever had any of the characters annoy me or made me roll my eyes was when a certain character thought something when they did something. Besides that, the characters were enjoyable.

This ending does feel like a step up from ACOWAR, but not by much. I did enjoy reading this last book as I was wanting to know what would happen to Celaena in the end, even though she has annoyed me in other books, as well as Chaol, Manon, and other characters. I just think it could have been better.

If you have read all of the Throne of Glass books up this book, then I would read it so you can know what happens because it does feel nice to know how it ends. Just remember it is close to a thousand pages.

Have fun reading!
