Summary: “A library apprentice, a sorcerer prince, and an unbreakable magic bond…
The Solaris Empire is one conquest away from uniting the continent, and the rare elemental magic sleeping in seventeen-year-old library apprentice Vhalla Yarl could shift the tides of war.
Vhalla has always been taught to fear the Tower of Sorcerers, a mysterious magic society, and has been happy in her quiet world of books. But after she unknowingly saves the life of one of the most powerful sorcerers of them all—the Crown Prince Aldrik—she finds herself enticed into his world. Now she must decide her future: Embrace her sorcery and leave the life she’s known, or eradicate her magic and remain as she’s always been. And with powerful forces lurking in the shadows, Vhalla’s indecision could cost her more than she ever imagined.” -From Goodreads
Review: I have mixed feelings about this book. I found two thirds of the book to be boring, but the last third was my favorite. I liked the ending more than the beginning.
Elise’s writing was good. Her writing made was what made the book go fast for me. Though I do wish she could have gone more into the world and about the magic system. Also cut down on the number of characters that were introduced. I hard time keeping up with all the characters because they got introduced almost right away and it sometimes became hard to follow, since this book was less than 350 pages.
Speaking about the characters, I did enjoy some of them. I didn’t care for Vhalla in the beginning but I did start to like her more towards the end. I don’t how I feel about Prince Aldrik yet. I hate and love him at the same time.
The relationships in the book went too fast and didn’t take a good amount of time to take to develop. Like two characters would hate each other but then fall in love with each other after he said he was sorry to her and she would then right away feel different for him. I just didn’t like it.
Overall, I wish I didn’t fall for all the hype over this book. I’m sure if I went into it to just enjoy it then I’m sure I would have liked it more, but since I had high expectations, I didn’t like it as much. I will continue with the series because I’m interested to see what happens.
Have fun reading!!!
