The Young Queens-Book Review(No Spoilers)

Author: Kendare Blake

Series: Three Dark Crowns #0.2

Rating: 5/5 Stars

Summary: “Three black witches, born to a descending queen. One would rise to become queen in her place. Perhaps the strongest of the three. Perhaps the cleverest. Or perhaps it would be the girl born under the best shield of luck.

Katharine, Arsinoe and Mirabella – three young queens born to fulfil their destiny – to fight to the death to win the crown. But before they were poisoner, elemental and naturalist, they were children, sisters and friends . . .” -from Goodreads

Review: The Young Queens builds more of the world. It also shows how close the two sisters were before they were separated. It was very much enjoyable.

It was great for this novella to build more of this amazing world Kendare Blake created. This novella made things clearer and answered questions I had about the backstory of this world.

I highly recommend if you loved Three Dark Crowns and One Dark Throne, then you should read this novella. Don’t read this before reading those two books or else you will be spoiled for the ending of Three Dark Crowns.

Three Dark Crowns-Book Review(No Spoilers)

Author: Kendare Blake

Series: Three Dark Crowns #1

Rating: 4.5/5 Stars

Summary: “When kingdom come, there will be one.

In every generation on the island of Fennbirn, a set of triplets is born—three queens, all equal heirs to the crown and each possessor of a coveted magic. Mirabella is a fierce elemental, able to spark hungry flames or vicious storms at the snap of her fingers. Katharine is a poisoner, one who can ingest the deadliest poisons without so much as a stomachache. Arsinoe, a naturalist, is said to have the ability to bloom the reddest rose and control the fiercest of lions.

But becoming the Queen Crowned isn’t solely a matter of royal birth. Each sister has to fight for it. And it’s not just a game of win or lose…it’s life or death. The night the sisters turn sixteen, the battle begins.

The last queen standing gets the crown.”-Summary from Goodreads

Review: I didn’t know what I was getting into when reading this book. I knew what it was about, but I had no idea what would happen in this first book.

Now, I just want to say nothing big happens for two-thirds of this book. The last third of this book is perfect.

The story is solid. It was well-thought out and it felt different from other fantasy stories, which was refreshing. There is a part of me that is happy there will only be two books, so I don’t have to wait long for the ending.

The characters were well written. Kendare Blake knows how to write characters and make them have different voices, from each other. Though the romance for me went too fast. Characters were already making out and falling in love too fast. It would have been nice to see the romance to slowly develop instead of things going fast.

There are a lot of characters you will be introduced to, so you will have to remember each one since there is no appendix.

Overall, this book is worth the read if you want a different type of fantasy story or liked Kendare Blakes other books. I do suggest you read a few fantasy books before this one in order to get ready to keep track of characters that appear. I can’t wait to read book twi when it gets released this year.

Have fun reading!!!
